LPC3250 +EEPROM + Stage 1 Loader

Hi All,
I am using NXP LPC3250 on my proprietary board. When i boot the board(before loading the kickstart and Stage 1 Loader through LSL), i get the character '5 once'. On Phytec Reference board, i am continuously getting the '5'.
S1L loader code uses the EEPROM to read the default parameters.

1. Can we bypass the EEPROM for initial boot?
2. Currently GPIO_5 is not connected to SSEL0. I need to connect it for EEPROM working. Please correct me.
